Breast cancer strikes one in eight American women and as women age, the risk increases. Periodic screening mammography has been shown to save lives by detecting cancer early, when it is most treatable. According to the American Cancer Society, there is a 97 percent survival rate for breast cancer that is detected early. Yet, this important screening test continues to be underutilized.
CIMRO of Nebraska is working with Nebraska stakeholders to promote screening for breast cancer by providing information and supporting statewide initiatives to help beneficiaries and providers. In addition, CIMRO of Nebraska helps physicians to implement systems with reminders and prompts that will help to ensure all patients receive the necessary preventive health services.
