I'm not sure what Medicare covers.  Where can I get information that will explain this?
The Social Security Administration Office can provide you with a free copy of the publication, "Medicare and You".  This publication will explain your Medicare coverage benefits.  You can also call the toll free number (800) 772-1213 to be directed to your local social security administration office or visit the online social security office locator web site. https://s044a90.ssa.gov/apps6z/FOLO/fo001.jsp
Are mammograms covered by Medicare?
Yes.  Medicare Part B helps pay for an annual screening mammogram for female Medicare beneficiaries, age 40 and older.  In addition, Medicare also covers one baseline mammogram for women, age 35 to 39.  There is no deductible, but there is a co-payment.  Medicare does not require a referral or a doctor's prescription for a screening mammogram.
 
Is there a place to obtain free or reduced cost mammograms and pap tests?

The hospital wants to release me, but I don't feel well enough yet to go home.  What do I do?
Ask the hospital to give you their decision to release you in writing.  This is called a "Notice of Noncoverage" or "Denial Notice".  If you don't agree with the notice you can call CIMRO of Nebraska by noon of the next business day at 1-800-458-4262.  While you are in the hospital, we will request your medical record and have a physician reviewer determine if you are medically stable for discharge or if you need to stay in the hospital. You cannot be sent home or billed by the hospital until CIMRO of Nebraska has completed our review.

I'm unhappy with the medical care I received.  What can I do?
First, discuss your medical problem and your treatment options with your physician.  A true partnership between beneficiaries and their physicians and caregivers is encouraged.  If you still are not satisfied, please call 1-800-MEDICARE.
What happens when I make a formal complaint about the quality of care I am receiving?
If you decide you want to make a formal complaint, call 1-800-MEDICARE. 
Who will review my complaint and how long will it take?
Depending on the case, any of CIMRO of Nebraska physician reviewers can review the complaint.  A case manager will contact you once the complaint is filed and will serve as your point of contact throughout the process. The physician reviewer can only look at what is documented in your medical record and makes an initial finding that is shared with the healthcare provider who also has the option to provide comments.  CIMRO of Nebraska works directly with you and your provider to resolve your concerns and to make sure you and other Medicare members receive the best care possible.  The entire process can take anywhere from three to six months.
What if I received care in a different state.  Can CIMRO of Nebraska still review my complaint?
CIMRO of Nebraska can only review healthcare that was provided in Nebraska.  However, each state has a Quality Improvement Organization.  To request a review of a complaint regarding care received outside of Nebraska, call 1-800-MEDICARE to find the QIO for a different state, or visit http://www.medqic.org/dcs/ContentServer?pagename=Medqic/MQGeneralPage/GeneralPageTemplate&name=QIO%20Listings
