Medication safety is an important component of patient safety. Adverse events secondary to medication therapy are the most common type of healthcare associated adverse event. Harmful, unintended reactions to medicines that occur at doses normally used for treatment are known as Adverse Drug Events (ADEs). Many ADEs are due to medication errors, which occur at any point in the medication administration process.
In conjunction with the national Patient Safety and Clinical Pharmacy Collaborative (PSPC), funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), CIMRO of Nebraska is offering quality improvement assistance to reduce ADEs in high-risk patients. Through education, safer medication practices and better reporting systems, we have an opportunity to improve patient outcomes while reducing and preventing patient harm
