More than 133 million Americans have at least one chronic illness and many have several. Among these, cardiovascular disease is the most deadly, accounting for one of every three deaths in the United States. Over $503 billion is spent annually on cardiovascular disease. Approximately 75 million Americans have high blood pressure, 18 million have a history of heart attack, six million have a history of heart failure and six million have a history of stroke.
Decades of research and practice have demonstrated that public health and clinical strategies can greatly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
CIMRO of Nebraska, in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and the American Heart Association (Midwest chapter) has recently launched the ABCS Learning and Action Network (LAN) to improve cardiovascular health in Nebraska. The LAN will work to reduce duplication of efforts and help partners experience success as we work towards common, unifying goals of Aspirin for people at risk, Blood pressure control, Cholesterol management and Smoking cessation (ABCS).
The ABCS LAN will create an opportunity to connect the knowledge, skills and resources of physician practices, healthcare providers, organizations, payers and community partners to reach the common goal of improved cardiovascular health in Nebraska.
