The publicly reported outcome measure, ambulation/locomotion, OASIS item M0700, identifies the ability of
an individual to safely move through his/her environment. Ambulation/locomotion is a fundamental motor
skill involving the musculoskeletal, nervous and cardiovascular systems and can
significantly affect one’s level of independence and quality of life.
Intervention strategies to improve ambulation/locomotion can be successfully managed through the use of ambulation and mobility screening, physical and occupational therapy, patient/caregiver education and fall risk reduction.
