Fast-Track Appeals Overview

Medicare provides all beneficiaries with the right to an expedited (fast-track) appeal when the beneficiary or their representative disagrees with the termination of skilled services.  CIMRO of Nebraska, the Quality Improvement Organization for the state of Nebraska, processes beneficiary’s request for an appeal when a provider is planning to discharge the beneficiary from skilled services. This benefit covers services delivered in the following types of settings:

  • Skilled Nursing Homes
  • Home Health Agencies (HHA)
  • Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (CORF)
  • Hospices (inpatient or outpatient)

Providers in the above settings are required to provide Medicare beneficiaries an advance notice informing them that skilled care services are ending.  The Advance notice must be given at least two calendar days before the effective date of coverage is planned to end.
