Cultural competency is “the level of knowledge-based skills required to provide effective clinical care to patients from a particular ethnic or racial group.” (Department of Health and Human Services and Health Resources and Services Administration)
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health (OMH) developed the Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards to provide policy and practice guidelines for healthcare providers. To educate providers on cultural competency, CIMRO of Nebraska promotes educational conferences and online training courses.
In addition, CIMRO of Nebraska is available to assist providers in adopting the CLAS standards within their office setting.
