The publicly reported outcome measure, Improving Management of Oral Medications, OASIS item M0780, is calculated based on distinctly defined criteria and tasks that are only part of the full scope of medication management issues. In order to most effectively impact this outcome measure, homecare agencies are challenged to understand the scope of the measure and the impact that various clinical practices may or may not have on the measure. The Management of Oral Medications measure reflects an assessment of the patient’s cognitive and functional ability to prepare and take oral medications in the correct dosage at the correct time.
