The publicly reported outcome measure Improvement in Transferring, OASIS item M0690, identifies the patients ability to safely move
from bed to chair, on and off the toilet or commode, in and out of the tub
or shower and to turn and position self in bed. Similar to ambulation, this
measure involves fundamental motor skills including the musculoskeletal, nervous
and cardiovascular systems and can significantly affect one’s level of
independence and quality of life. Intervention strategies to improve
transferring can be successfully managed through the use of mobility screening,
physical and occupational therapy, patient/caregiver education and fall risk
reduction.
