Urinary Incontinence Overview

The publicly reported outcome measure, Improvement in Urinary Incontinence, indicates the percentage of patients who were incontinent of urine at the start of care/resumption of care and were continent at discharge.  OASIS items M0520 and M0530 are used to identify the presence of urinary incontinence and when the incontinence occurs.

Urinary incontinence is an important factor affecting patient comfort, skin integrity and the ability to engage in daily activities.  Early identification of urinary incontinence in homecare patients, initiation of appropriate interventions, on-going monitoring of progress towards goals and prevention of complications can have a significant impact on an individual’s functional and emotional status and his/her ability to remain in the community.
